Quality and Safety Technician

POSITION SUMMARY

Under the direction of the Quality and Safety Manager, the Quality and Safety Technician will work with suppliers, customers, and personnel to improve quality and safety systems and performance, while maintaining an effective quality & safety management system.

 

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS

  • Associates Degree or higher in a related field preferred.
  • 3 to 5 years of safety and quality experience in a manufacturing setting.
  • Knowledge of ISO standards is required. Experience with ISO 9001:2015 in a work environment is preferred.
  • Knowledge of legal health and safety guidelines.
  • Quality and Safety certifications are a plus.

 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must be able to read, write, speak and comprehend English.
  • Intermediate math skills of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division.
  • Must understand measurements, including metric.
  • Must understand fractions and percentages.
  • Good understanding of tools and calibration requirements.
  • Must have excellent organizational skills, including development of processes and procedures
  • Intermediate knowledge of MS Outlook, Word and Excel. Comfortable with ERP systems and databases.
  • Able to interpret customer documentation, including drawings and bills of material.
  • Must understand schematics/multi-level assembly drawings.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Quality Practices

  • Works with the Quality and Safety Manager to ensure the following:
    • Maintenance of Quality Management System.
    • Development and implementation of inspection audits.
  • Work with Materials group to get to root cause of raw material quality issues.
  • Work with employees to resolve internal quality issues.
  • Maintain and report NCM information.
  • Provide training for new products or in areas identified as having quality issues.
  • Establish systems so all tools are calibrated according to standards.
  • Participate in new job set-ups and establish inspection criteria for new materials.
  • Perform inspection tests.

Compliance and Certifications

  • Be knowledgeable about ISO requirements.
  • Work with auditor on annual ISO certification.
  • Identify employees to be trained as internal auditors and manage schedule.
  • Manage documentation control process.
  • Identify and assist in developing work instructions with teams.
  • Address corrective actions on a timely basis.
  • Maintain an up-to-date quality management system.
  • Understand national and international standards and requirements.
  • Maintain database of information, including RoHS, REACH, Conflict Minerals and Country of Origin.
  • Provide customers with product compliance information.

 

Non-conforming Materials (NCM)

  • Collect, identify, store, document, investigate and followup on all NCMs
  • Work with Materials team to return, replace, receive credit for and adjust product information in system
  • Work with Production to address effect on Production schedule
  • Work with Accounting to address customer returns due to NCM
  • Disposition product (scrap, return, etc)

Safety

  • Work with Human Resources, Facilities and Equipment Manager and Safety Committee on safety issues.
  • Organize the processes and systems that lead to a safe work environment.
  • Oversee and provide safety programs and training.
  • Work with Maintenance to comply with legal rules and regulations.
  • Provide organization and direction for the Safety Committee.
  • Work with insurance carriers.
  • Understand OSHA requirements, obtain required certifications and provide required reports.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS

While performing the duties of this job, the employee will be required to do the following, including but not limited to:

  • Sit at a desk and work on a computer.
  • Stand in and move about the production area.
  • Occasionally climb or balance, stoop, kneel or crouch.
  • Occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
  • Vision requirements include, close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus to environment.

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT

  • Heated and air-conditioned office, but some time in non-A/C production area
  • Some exposure to moving mechanical parts.
  • Noise level is usually moderate.

HOURS AND TRAVEL

  • This is a salaried full-time position with an expectation of 40-50 hours per week, unless agreed upon otherwise.
  • Monday through Friday, 8:00 am to 4:00 pm with flexibility to accommodate need for overtime and customer demand. Start time is flexible from 5:00 am to 8:00 am.
  • Consistent start time is expected.
  • Infrequent travel may be required.
